ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Manager MLLLC this role has responsibility for facilitating this program, as well as the ongoing review and development of the AFL themed curriculum. Selected students complete a unique education program which focuses on the AFL values, leadership philosophies, educational opportunities and healthy lifestyles. AFL games, umpiring, coaching and mentoring sessions with NT Thunder players are the highlight of the week. The program provides a short-term boarding house experience and students visit local boarding schools throughout the week to increase their understanding of education pathways.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF

  • Delivery of the MLLLC education curriculum to students during in house programs
  • Ongoing review and development of the AFL themed curriculum in line with relevant Federal Government and the NT department of Education’s Indigenous Education Strategy
  • Develop relationships with and provide logistical support to schools involved in the program
  • Ongoing review, development and coordination of the Community Engagement & Leadership Programs
  • Travel to community schools, as required, to support the delivery of the Community Engagement & Leadership Programs
  • Work closely with program partners and stakeholders to develop and timetable their sessions in the program
  • Ongoing development and review of the education program timetable
  • Development and implementation of strategies to improve and measure school attendance in communities prior to and following the residential element of the MLLLC Education Program
  • Develop, implement and report on methods to measure student learning
  • Collect and analyse relevant data required for stakeholder reports
  • Promotion of the MLLLC education program, via a range of social media channels, through the development of content with the AFLNT media team
  • Work closely with the Manager of MLLLC to identify opportunities for program growth and innovation
  • Distinguish, embrace and celebrate the culture of the communities engaged in the program
  • Acknowledge and celebrate significant national indigenous events, engaging AFLNT staff, the local and broader community in cultural activities where relevant
  • Be a positive advocate for boarding schools and stakeholders involved in the program

 

OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER

Mandatory:

  • Bachelor of Education or similar qualification
  • NT Working with Children’s certification (or ability to obtain one prior to commencing)
  • Sound knowledge of school environments, Indigenous Australian communities, and AFLNT programs in the NT
  • Experienced classroom management skills
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication, interpersonal and negation skills
  • Demonstrated personal initiative and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Developed IT skills particularly Word, Excel and Publisher
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours

 

Desirable:

  • Prior experience teaching in remote communities
  • Experience teaching literacy and numeracy at a primary level
  • Proven ability to effectively manage a diverse and extensive range of tasks concurrently
  • ESL training
  • Current NT Light Rigid license (or ability to obtain one for the role)
  • Current senior First Aid Certificate (or ability to obtain one for the role)
  • Pool supervision certificate or equivalent qualification (or ability to obtain one for the role)
