An opportunity exists to join the leadership team of, Daybreak Cropping, a national broadacre cropping business with farms located in Victoria, NSW and Western Australia. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Regional Operations Manager - West will be an integral member of the leadership team with regional responsibility for identifying broadacre cropping acquisition opportunities and driving farm performance in Western Australia.

Broadly, the Regional Operations Manager- West will:

  • Identify new acquisition opportunities in Western Australia, complete preliminary acquisition analysis and assessments and complete detailed operational due diligence
  • Oversee the implementation of farm setup and development initiatives identified during due diligence, lead the farm managers to deliver ongoing operating initiatives and deliver financial returns to the investor in line with the acquisition business case and subsequent budgets.

The key performance areas for this role are:

Operations

  • In conjunction with other members of the senior leadership team, lead the promotion and execution of a positive safety system and culture throughout the business and specifically on farms in Western Australia.
  • Promote a culture that reflects the organisations values, encourages high performance, and rewards productivity.
  • Participate in the selection and recruitment Farm Managers and Assistant Farm Managers.
  • Manage employee performance and succession plans
  • Foster effective teamwork and collaboration between management, employees and consultants
  • Develop and implement Operational Plans for each farm in line with the overall business plan.
  • Ensure cropping activities are well organized and resourced.
  • Review farm performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide high quality, objective decision making support
  • Lead and manage all regional contractor relationships and tenders.
  • Identify and project manage key development projects that will increase investor returns i.e. land conversion, soil amelioration or infrastructure to improve operating efficiency.

Acquisition

  • Identify potential acquisition opportunities and develop relationships with agents and potential vendors to ensure awareness of any opportunities early in the process.
  • Complete initial farm inspections and due diligence.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong practical broadacre farming experience (WA experience preferred) and knowledge of current farming and agronomic techniques and technologies, including knowledge and a commitment to Workplace Health and Safety
  • Past experience in a similar broadacre operations management role or asset management role.
  • A proven Leader with a demonstrated ability to lead teams to deliver high performance.
  • Strategic planning/ project management skills which illustrate a forward thinking approach
  • Excellent influencing skills including the ability to develop relationships with farmers, agronomists, real estate agents, colleagues and investors.
  • Experienced in negotiating and managing commercial relationships and contracts
  • Financial understanding/ the ability to read and understand financial reports
  • Strong written skills and a high attention to detail
  • Willingness to live in Melbourne and travel to Western Australia as required.
