The Advisor – Natural Resource Management is responsible for reducing the environmental and legislative risks associated with vegetation and wildlife within the rail reserve.

Reporting to the Civil Maintenance Supervisor, key responsibilities include identifying appropriate controls to minimise impacts associated with rail maintenance and projects, provision of advice on the management of invasive plant and animal species, preparing FFG and EPBC referrals and managing environmental permits, providing technical advice to external and internal stakeholders on natural resource management, liaising with external stakeholders on issues relating to vegetation management, investigating any incidents relating to natural resource management and improving, updating and maintaining V/Lines’ information on protected vegetation and wildlife.

The successful candidate will hold a tertiary qualification in Ecology, Botany, Natural Resource Management or related discipline and have relevant practical experience in an environmental field including extensive knowledge of Victorian plant and animal species and associated permitting requirements as well as a sound understanding of treatments for the control of pest plant and animal species.

Excellent MS Excel and MS Word skills would be advantageous. Your outstanding time management and communication (written and verbal), contractor management skills, along with your commitment to providing a safety conscious work environment will see you excel in this role. Working autonomously in a large team environment you will have the ability to prioritise and manage competing workloads with short turnaround times.

This position provides a combination of both office and field work. Regional travel is required as is the ability to spend one to two nights away from home as required.

The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience. 

The selection process may include aptitude assessments, a behavioural event interview, national probity (police) check and medical examination in line with the National Standard for Health Assessment for Rail Safety Workers.
