SDN Children's Services is a not-for profit organisation that has been providing quality early childhood education and care since 1905. About Brighter Futures

SDN Brighter Futures is a government funded voluntary program available to families who have children under 9 years old, or who are expecting a child. This program supports families going through challenges that are affecting their children, whether it be mental health issues, drug and alcohol misuse, family violence or even just the need to work on parenting skills. Sometimes a little extra help is all that's needed to prevent family problems from growing into stressful or dangerous situations.

About The Role

To improve child and family outcomes for children at Risk of Significant Harm by:

  • Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams in the formulation and review of case plans, and effective design and evaluation of services / educational programs
  • Continue to embed a systemic practice approach towards the provision of child protection interventions in the management of Risk of Significant Harm cases
  • Provision of consultations, assessments and therapeutic interventions to children and families
  • Multi-agency work and provision of specialist consultations to SDN staff

SDN Brighter Futures Inner West in Burwood is looking for a qualified and experienced Family Systemic Practitioner. We are flexible with part time options. It's a six month contract with possbile extension.

About You

  • Post graduate qualifications in psychology (Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, AHPRA) or systemic therapy or relevant qualifications with demonstrated experience of understanding and supporting families to overcome complex problems and needs using Systemic Therapeutic interventions
  • Experience working with families where the child has been assessed as being at Risk of Significant Harm
  • Demonstrated expertise conducting assessments and the ability to adapt standardised approaches to meet the needs of clients with complex needs, including disability, drug and alcohol misuse and mental health issues
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of therapeutic interventions
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, in a transdisciplinary manner as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated experience working from a trauma informed approach to help address parent child relationship concerns, using a dyad of psychological frameworks in an early intervention and prevention context
  • Demonstrated experience undertaking psychological and systemic assessments of family members, including children
  • Demonstrated competence in interpersonal communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • A current Working with Children?s Check (WWCC) number
