Detail information about job Family Support Worker. Terms and conditions vacancy

The Save the Children Family Support Team in Katherine provide critical support to families in the region including local communities, Beswick, Barunga, Rockhole & Binjari. We need you to provide support to families with complex needs and who may be experiencing crisis, through a variety of evidence-based programs and the supported processes of the organisation. No day is the same, but every day provides new opportunities for mutual growth, development, inspiration, a sense of achievement and job satisfaction.

Save the Children is no ordinary not-for-profit.
We’re ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children’s rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. We run programs in Australia and overseas. If there’s a disaster - like an earthquake, drought or conflict - we are there on the ground.

Where you come in:
In this full-time, permanent term position, you will work independently with families to meet referral concerns. Referral pathways include Child Protection as well as community referrals and self-referrals. You will strengthen links to community networks and be responsible for maintaining the already highly regarded, professional reputation of the team and the programs we are proud to deliver in the area. Based in Katherine, you will report to our Intensive Family Support Services (IFSS) & Intensive Family Preservation Support (IFPS) Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

  • Providing individual & group support to families from a child centred, strengths-based approach.
  • Supporting families to access the assistance they need - ‘walking with, rather than doing for’.
  • Actively encouraging vulnerable, detached or fearful families to engage with our programs.
  • Meeting KPIs in collecting and recording data and information for accountability, evaluation and reporting.

If we could compose our ideal colleague to join the team…

…Your previous experience working in case management roles, already has you coming to the team with a ‘toolkit’ of strategies and a proven ability to think on your feet and source solutions to complex situations. You have a thirst for learning and are dedicated to your own self-improvement in your work practise. You are able to give evidence to your cultural competency and knowledge, particularly in regard to working with Aboriginal People and how you develop positive working relationships. You have empathy, a ‘can-do attitude’, and most importantly, an infectious enthusiasm for your job, coupled with a sense of humour.

This role requires:

  • Qualifications in a relevant field such as Social Work/Welfare, Counselling, Psychology, Allied Health & Community Services.
  • Demonstrated experience working alongside families and/or youths, using a partnership, strengths-based, family-centred approach.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate and advocate on behalf of families.
  • Driver’s licence (car available for work use).

Working at Save the Children is more than just a job.
It’s the feeling of knowing that your work is contributing to making the world a better place for children and working with others who feel the same. We offer a competitive salary including generous salary packaging benefits, a friendly and flexible work environment, and great career opportunities - both locally and internationally.
