An exciting opportunity exists for a Financial Counsellor and Educator who has the skills and capacity to work with people most vulnerable within our community. You will:
  • Provide one-to-one casework services to assist clients to find solutions to their financial concerns and develop skills in managing their financial affairs;
  • advocate and negotiate on behalf of the client with credit providers, utilities and others;
  • Educate people most at risk of financial disadvantage and exclusions, who have credit and debt problems and/or seek to participate in financial literacy education;
  • support referral of clients to other services; and
  • develop appropriate collaborative programs to meet consumer needs.
 
You will be based at the Karnany Resource Centre in Midland, a drop-in style support service that works with people in crisis. Issues facing clients include homelessness, literacy issues, chronic unemployment and financial crisis. You will work within the busy, positive and support Karnany team.  
 
 
Essential qualifications/criteria:
  • Diploma in Community Services (Financial Counselling) or demonstrated equivalent with 3+ years’ experience;
  • Completed, or willing to complete, the following 3 units which give Financial Capability Accreditation: CHCFLE301A, CHCFLE302A and CHCFLE303A;
  • Eligible for membership of the Financial Counsellors Association of WA;
  • Cultural competency and experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.
You will also demonstrate a sound understanding of:
  • Guidelines for the Financial Counselling Association Code of Ethical Practice
  • Policies, practices and services available through state and federal governments
  • Legislation relating to credit and debt, particularly the National Credit Code, Bankruptcy Act and Debt Recovery Legislation.
