Oakwood School is seeking to appoint an experienced and dedicated Director of Studies, to support our multi-campus model across Launceston, Hobart and Devonport. Although supporting our campuses at a State level, this role will be based at our Launceston campus.

This role is permanent, full-time and available to start as soon as possible. 

The Position

The Director of Studies is a member of the Senior Educational Leadership Team (SELT) and directly supports the District Principal in the leadership and management of all aspects of the curriculum and academic program for Oakwood School.

The position will work in close partnership, collaboration, and professional collegiality with the Heads of Campus and Teachers across the three campuses, to ensure both staff and students are supported from an academic perspective.

This role will also encompass an e-learning aspect where the incumbent will be required to provide leadership around pedagogy in the use of our key digital platforms to deliver a quality teaching and learning experience.

Duties and responsibilities of the position includes: 

  • Curriculum development and implementation
  • Coordination of the TCE, including documentation, procedures, reporting requirements and liaison with relevant departmental and/or organizational bodies
  • Preparation and maintenance of the school timetable for years 7-12
  • Assessment and reporting
  • Data analysis, including monitoring of student progress, analysis of testing results and associated recommendations to inform teaching and learning practices 
  • Leadership of academia staff
  • Leadership in the delivery of OneSchool curriculum drivers, including Self Directed Learning, Virtual Classroom and Canvas (LMS)

Whilst the position is based at the Launceston campus, the role will involve travel across all three campuses in Tasmania.

As well as being a leadership and academic role, this role will also involve some classroom teaching within the secondary school.

The Person

The successful candidate will be a team player who demonstrates a positive and solutions-focused attitude, and will motivate their team through personal example. The successful candidate will be energetic and enthusiastic, possess integrity, inspire trust and have the ability to operate under pressure. 

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Leadership in a 7-12 school, or equivalent
  • Experience in a commensurate role involving the leadership of curriculum across multiple year levels and subject areas, the leadership of people, and experience in change management
  • Proven ability to use assessment data to bring about improved academic results
  • A wide view and knowledge of curriculum development, and is concerned for the education of the whole person
  • Is a highly effective teacher with a strong knowledge of contemporary educational pedagogy
  • Strong IT skills and understanding of how to harness innovative technologies in education
  • Proven leadership experience, including experience in strategic planning and implementation and the ability to grow others as leaders using coaching and mentoring techniques
  • Knowledge of the principles underpinning Self-Directed Learning and Virtual Classroom delivery methods would be an advantage. 

As the school has a strong faith based approach to life and learning, the successful applicant will also need to be able to respect and support this aspect of the lives of the students.

The successful candidate will have relevant teaching experience and will hold relevant qualifications and a current teacher registration certificate within Tasmania (or willingness to obtain).
