Boart Longyear is the world’s leading provider of drilling equipment and performance tooling for mining and drilling companies globally. Our range of highly productive drill rigs and performance tooling is suited to a variety of applications including, mining, mineral exploration, energy, environmental sampling and remediation, as well as infrastructure reinforcement and development.
As part of our Geological Data Services (GDS) team, this role is a key technical resource in rolling out,developing and supporting our field deployable geochemical technology.
Tools include Boart Longyear’s new Truscan logging trailer deployed in either the drilling work flow or core storage facility. This role is expected to provide technical support for the calibration, structural and chemical understanding that supports Truscan and other GDS tools, working alongside Boart Longyear and third-party customers. As Boart Longyear continues to develop a suite of new tools that require internal and external end user training and support, the Future Technology development is a significant part of this role.
Reporting to the Senior Geochemist, key role responsibilities include:
- Understand geochemical analytical equipment in detail and maintain expertise on cutting-edge technology
- Calibration, operation and support of geochemical analytical equipment
- Attending geochemical- client meetings and conducting presentations with our mining clients and industry
- Training of drill crews and field technicians to operate geochemical analytical equipment
- Provide feedback on technology innovation and documentation
- Trouble shooting technical issues tied to geochemical analytical equipment
- Perform geochemical technology hardware and software maintenance as required
- Review and QA/QC of all geochemical data generated
Key Capability Requirements include:
- Bachelor degree in Geology, Geochemistry and/or Geophysics
- Background and/or understanding of XRF related hardware and software
- XRF technology experience tied to hard rock geochemistry
- Understanding of hard rock geochemistry and Ore deposit knowledge
- Ability to work with and engage a diverse group of stakeholders
- Mine site related field experience
This role may at times require working rosters that align with end user requirements and is suited to a Geologist, Geochemist or Geophysicist with hands on field experience.
Candidates with knowledge in SQL and basic mechanical and electronic skills will be held in high regard.
